G13 Wildcats OC Kickoff Finalists

Irvine, CA – In a nail-biting finish, the Galaxy Wildcats narrowly lost the final in G13 Flight E of the 2008 Orange County Kickoff Classic.  Playing against the Westside Breakers Blue, the game was a 2 – 2 tie at the end of regulation and was ultimately decided by penalty kicks – the Breakers making one more than the Wildcats.   Despite missing four key players plus their regular keeper, the Wildcats played with lots of skill, heart, and soul in the tournament, winning their first two games against the Mission Viejo Riptide (4 – 2) and the San Clemente United (3 – 1).  Their game against the Corona United White ended in a (0 – 0) tie, which placed the Wildcats second in points for their flight.  In the flight final against the Westside Breakers, the Galaxy Wildcats (who never trailed) twice took the lead and dominated field position for most of the game until the Westside Breakers evened the score (2 – 2) on a free kick.  Then, as time expired, came the penalty kicks to break the tie, and the Breakers did just that on their last PK.  Special credit should be given to substitute keeper Michall (the Wildcats’ MVP) who filled in ably at keeper for the tournament.  The Galaxy Wildcats are very proud of what they accomplished, especially while missing so many key players.   The Wildcats have played in the finals for three of the last four tournaments entered and won the Johnny Lopez tournament in June.

GU14 Galaxy Force champions of Toyota Classic

GU14 Galaxy Force played at the Toyota Orange Classic Tournament the weekend of August 16-17.

The Force started slow playing the PSC Surf eking out a 1-0 win as they missed scoring opportunity after opportunity. However, after a five hour layover the Force came back very strong beating the OSC United 5-0 - with five different girls scoring for the team. Sunday morning the Force started strong again and beat the AC Brea team 4-1 to win their pool.

Sunday afternoon in blistering heat the Force played in the finals on a field that was overly large against a strong aggressive Palmdale Thunder team. The first half both teams played tough soccer with no score and the game went on like that until about seven minutes to go in the match. On a beautiful crossing pass, the ball was crashed into the goal by the Force to lead 1-0. Though the game went over seven minutes into stoppage time, the Force held on to win the championship game.

The Force is thrilled to be part of not only the Galaxy Alliance Soccer Club, and also is proud that its fellow three GASC girls’ teams - the WIldcats GU13, the Devil Cats, and the United GU15 having all won their preseason tournaments prior to the start of their Coast Soccer League season.

Galaxy United GU15 win Islands Classic

The GU15 United play in Silver West this season

GALAXY UNITED GU15 played in Camarillo at the Island Classic Tournament the last weekend of July.

This was the Galaxy United GU15’s first preseason tournament as part of their preparation games before the start of their season.

The UNITED GIRLS played in the Burgundy Bracket against Silver & Silver Elite teams. Their 1st WIN was against a tough LA Rampage team 3-1 and in their 2nd game against a physical and also tough South Valley United Black team the girls took a tie 0-0.

The UNITED GIRLS put themselves into the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME against a tough Ventura FC Reds team. The girls were down in the first 5 minutes of the game 2-0 before turning the game around. With strong mental and physical play, and determination the girls came back strong in the last 5 minutes of the first half to put 1 in.  In the second half again the girls came back strong and dominated the rest of the game and ended in a 2-2 tie. After again dominating the over time period, the game would be decided in penalty kicks.

The girls wound up scoring their first 3 goals and then finally on their fifth goal, WON the Real California FC Burgundy bracket in the Island Classic Tournament.

It was a very balanced scoring with five different girls scoring during the tournament - and also different ones taking and scoring on the PK’s as well as great strong performances from our backline and specially our goalkeeper during PK’s!

Both Peter & Angel were thrilled by their determination and never giving up attitude as well as enduring some very physical play by our opponents and also some very warm weather.

The GU15 GALAXY UNITED team is pleased to have started their season so well and looks forward to a great season with their new GALAXY CLUB!
